One of the best parts of being natural light photographers is that we get to spend a great deal of our time outside. While we love mother nature, her unpredictability can provide a little anxiety, and obsessive checking the weather forecast in the run up to a Spring engagement session or wedding. We knew Jake and Janel’s engagement session in Walnut Creek was going to be a good time no matter what was thrown at us, but a couple drenched in sunshine and happiness tends to turn out better than a session in which they are just drenched. Thankfully we lucked out and the break in the rain stuck around just long enough for a super fun springtime shoot.
To make the situation even better, rays of sunlight streamed through the clouds and provided a blanket of warmth to the day and to the shoot. It was a great time for Janel to debut a fun spring dress that complemented the casual cool vibes of their engagement shoot. An engagement session is a great opportunity for us to get to know our clients and to prep them for cameras being in their face for a good eight hours on their wedding day and we are grateful to spend the time playing in the beautiful backdrop of the east bay hills. It doesn’t hurt when your clients are as pleasant to be around as these two are.
Janel and Jake were naturals in front of the camera. Playful, goofy shots always seem to transfer over the best for final images and this couple was really able to embrace that vibe. These two weren’t afraid to hug, embrace, sit on the possibly squishy ground and most importantly laugh with each other. We were not only lucky that the weather cooperated with us but this day also reminded us how lucky we are that a huge chunk of our job is capturing moments of joy. It was a nice opportunity to spend some one on one time with these two before their wedding and we are so excited to meet their friends, families, and loved ones at their upcoming ceremony at Heather Farm!
